This is a particularly useful device in a new garden or awhere there are few mature trees and plants because they have a moment of opportunity for plant provides interests above eye level, if any-thing seems to rather flat.

Placed in this environment, a number of baskets at various levels, irregular, random pattern would be an eye-catcher right through the summer and possibly into the winter months when some year-round plants, which often are available, choose the pansies winter, evergreen ivy, dwarf conifer, sageand thyme.

Hanging from a wall mount lights can decorate a porch or house wall, a balcony or a veranda, and even more unattractive as a garage or outbuilding. Even an unattractive concrete
Scales can undergo a visual transformation through the use of lights.

Choosing a Hanging Basket

Various types of hanging basket are available, from simple wire mesh (often plastic coated) to a solid plastic pot and saucer or a hanging clay pot. Ideally, the goal isshould be to hide the basket boldly with cascading plants, so the appearance of the basket is not too important. However, if you go out for a delicate look and makes the pot or put a function in itself then a decorative style would of course be important.

A wire mesh basket was a thick layer of peat moss, which had previously been fed well wetted, they could even soak it in a weak solution of liquid fertilizer to give, additional fundsStart. A modern alternative for the lining is a specially made basket liner in a fibrous, felt-material. Once fed, the basket was partially prepared with compost (again, definitely not garden soil), plants will be filled. As you fill, moisten the compost and pack it firmly across the top and in a "dished" shape to flooding over the sides when the basket is watered to prevent.

Again, the safety is important - not sure that brackets are securely fastened and avoid Basketswhere people can hit their head, or if the drop is taking everything from casting damage.

Planting shall hang

The plants should be positioned both in the top of the basket and pushed through the pages, so as to achieve full coverage of cascading leaves and flowers. For starters, a plant of upright habit could be chosen, but make sure it is low-growing, or is the suspension of the wires get tangled or damaged in the wind. A low-growing geraniums wouldbeautiful, and you can always bushy pinch out the tip to encourage upright growth than to.

Baskets can be white is also equipped with a charming with a single type of plant or a mixture - perhaps an issue of color, red, purple and blue or red and orange. Summer flowering creepers, the good effect can be used, including fuchsias, ivy-leaf geranium, lobelia and nasturtiums final, would also be useful, ivy, petunias and busy lizzies that hang well, if not exactly final;sweet alyssum, heliotrope, verbena and Phlox drummondii.

Traffic lights must not only useful in the summer. In the fall they should be emptied and cleaned, but could be planted again for the winter with hardy plants, they could even be an integral part of a small group of baskets that would make a part of your collection to stay. Suitable plants are ivy again, which can be maintained over the summer shows (even one from the greenhouse plants wereAll spring and summer, they should be fairly robust) and also the beautiful creeping jenny (Lysimachia nummularia) - a British wild plant with showy yellow flowers are often fragrant.

Other hardy plants for baskets are the lovely little wall plant Campanula muralis; the blue periwinkle Vinca minor, and Nepeta hederacca. Spring flowering bulbs like small daffodils, crocuses, snowdrops and Scilla could also make a good display early in the year.

Caring for your hangingCart

Traffic lights are solar and wind all round, so they tend to dry very quickly, especially in the summer. Frequent irrigation is therefore essential, and that it is virtually impossible to create a hanging above the water.

Access could be an issue and it might make sense to have a ladder handy so that you can easily water into the top of the basket can - this should be done at least once per day.

Get also a special article for the wateringis a form of outlet expansion and could be useful.

Add a diluted liquid fertilizer once a week, or use slow-release fertilizer pellets still save a few trips up and down the ladder. Dead flowers should be as often as possible to keep the plants looking their best tapped. Lobelia is also better for this, although it is a fiddly job is best done with a nail scissors.

Whether you are for your garden lights, a mass of richly planted pots or a couplewell-chosen examples - or a combination of all three if you have large rural acres or a small corner of the city, chances are that you can find containers in the garden a pleasant shape to grow.

Dedicated gardeners can easily be absorbed and boldly experimental, while the less committed will probably be forever grateful for plants that seem quick, impressive impact with so little care and attention to offer!

Elder Care hydroponic vegetable gardening indoors gardening container strawberries

Organic Gardening - The Sky is the Limit

The sky is the limit when it comes to organic gardening. Take advantage of your garden, wherever you go. There is an understandable consequence, if one considers that the concept of "feng shui" conjures up visions of serene, sprawling Asian gardens, where you go for an entire afternoon while pondering lifecomplicated and questions to be answered.

But did you know that you have an equally strong positive energy generated by applying Feng Shui principles of urban container garden, where you can create more concrete than grass, and more people than flowers?

The truth is, it really does not matter that much, all, how much space you have, or if you live in an urban, suburban or rural environment. What matters is how your energy in the room that you have createdavailable.

In confined urban areas, this may probably mean that you must create your space through container gardening. This is actually a good way to build positive Feng Shui, because you are not planting flowers, trees and herbs are restricted in areas of your garden, where vegetation grows in the general good. Place through the use of container in the garden, you can literally place your plants where you want (within the space allotted to you by your landlord,Course).

It's okay to put shade plants in a sunny location if you are containers in the garden because the plants take in the interior, or move them when they start to signs of solar intolerance. You can also full-SO plants provide shade in an area for a few days, just to be able to the energy of the area before the work in their natural environment. This makes your feng shui garden much more versatile and allow you to quickly arrange new elements, if a shift inEnergy occurs in or around your house.

A third great thing about Feng Shui garden container is that it's okay if you develop an emotional connection with your investments, because if you can move around, you everywhere you go. Unlike soil planted landscapes that homeowners have spent years of work if you have a container-based garden, you need not bother to leave behind. If you move, you can easily move your plants into your new home, a contribution to the creationSense of place and belonging in their new habitat.

Container-based feng shui in the garden has very few ideas, at least in comparison with fixed-plant in the garden. Arrange your plants are easier to move and can be more meaningful, healing energy in a smaller space, and you can landscape your entire , to take when you move, if you so desire.

Perhaps the most important facet about container gardening, however, is thatThey are the creation of a peaceful space for themselves, despite living only a few inches away from neighbors, landlords, and maintenance personnel. You can always find sanctuary in this environment, it also has to be worth the effort.

Good luck and happy landscaping!

gardening container strawberries container vegetable gardening square foot gardening

Success With Bulb Container Gardening

There is nothing to give you the feeling that spring is on its way to see light bulbs come as spectacular in bloom. Even if you do not have much space or be affected by other factors such as poor soils, an uncertain climate, not enough sun or restrictions in their mobility, then more in containers is the solution. Also Container gardening is a bit easier in the sense that one more protection against plant diseases and pest problems.

A portion of theFun of creating a container garden can be set in the unique elements you, your house plants. In addition to the standard terra cotta, plastic, porcelain or stoneware plant pots, you could recycle and use watering cans, buckets, beer or spirit barrels, wooden planter boxes, hanging baskets, or even old tires. You can also use a range of sizes, so there is something for everyone from the window-box in an apartment or balcony through to the other extreme of a large garden. Let yourImagination run wild and you can create something very special.

Important points for creating your Container Gardens:

All containers should have drainage holes and these are best on the sides instead of the bottom of the pots so the roots do not get wet location. If the pots are already drains in the bottom then maybe something about the lifting of the pots on bricks or small blocks of wood - all they really lift anything, so that the waterdrain can. Apparently the problem is solved when your tank is - so you done well!

The soil is the next step and this should be light, moisture holding and well drained. It is best to avoid garden soil, as well as the possible be due to disease or insect problems, it is also going to charge hard. To use only as a last resort. Your plants grow best when they are in a mixture of vermiculite, perlite, peat moss and some finished compost.

Because the plants in containers, and to some extent can not spread their roots and go for yourself, you must take care to keep a watchful eye on irrigation. Check your plants to install at least twice daily, or alternatively through a drip-irrigation system, you even use the water in the tank or water-holding crystals mixed with the soil. That's OK- You can bring some of your tropical year inside for the winter, to ease the pain of parting with them.

When you enter the room, a sunny window and enough moisture, you can save palm trees, ferns and other tropicals. But you probably have more success with cuttings and help you to clone your plants themselves. (It's like a kind of Day of the Triffids without the evil.)

Choose a healthy plant growth without any nasty bugs or frustrated. With a sharp knife, cut off flower stalks 3-4 notInches (8-11 cm) long, and strip the leaves from the lower two thirds of the tribe. Dip the cut edges in rooting hormone, contact your local nursery and put them in moist sand or peat, or a glass of tap water. Put the pot, tray or glass in a sunny place and wait 3-4 weeks. If the cuttings are not forgotten in sand or peat, to hold water to wet during this time.

If the roots of at least 1 inch (2.5 cm are) long, you can plant them in potting soil in attractiveContainer and in winter on a sunny windowsill or table. This method works well with annuals such as geraniums (pelargonium), coleus, and some ivy. You can also try impatiens plant material in this way.

Cleanup

Now that you what you can, get ruthless and empty save all your other outdoor containers have. If you have a compost heap, chop up the remains and throw them there. Ground too! This is especially important if you have used for terra cotta or ceramic containers, asthe moisture in the soil will expand when it freezes, and you'll end up with cracked pots. (If there are any crazy around my house, I want the human species!)

Next, wash to remove the empty containers to disease and fungal spores. If your terracotta pots with a white design of water, potting soil and fertilizer chemicals, soak them for 24 hours in white vinegar and water added with a little soda. She then scrub with a stiff brush in warm soapy water. Sinksthoroughly.

Dry air or sun, and then the container you stack them with layers of newspaper between each. If you have a place to store, where they do not freeze over the winter, the better. If not, as long as you have made certain the pots are dry and well are layered with paper, they should be well before spring.

Now you're ready for a show of autumn color to be laid. I love how much easier they are to worry about pests and how they do not seem anywhere near as much trouble as they do not plant in my garden. To save money, I reuse my pots per year. If you do not clean your pots correctly, you risk the loss of time and money, you have created. Diseases, bacteria and fungi can remain in the pot and infect new plants.

If you do not remove dead one year in the fall do it now. Remove allPerennials, which died in the winter. Just lift the majority of plants and when disease-free paste and half of the old potting soil mix to your compost. I did not add diseased plants or the ground to my compost. Some plants can be stubborn because of the size or roots. Cut or dig these plants. As long as the plants were growing in the pot when the pot itself healthy and no signs of rust, black spots or natural resources will show I have only planted. I leave half of the potting soil, add freshSoil and compost, mix it all together.

For new or empty old, get sick, especially when I was the last plant to clean and disinfect them. Yes, new container. New plant containers can be the remnants of the manufacturing process or chemicals.

The first step, I take with a stiff brush to clean as much solid material as I can. I then use a putty knife to scratch any stubborn deposits. To clean up my containers, I let them enjoya solution of one part bleach to nine parts water. In areas that you separate plantings to rows one foot addition to allow you to walk between them.

But in containers you go around the outside of plants, carnations can only have four inches between them in all directions.

If you try to buy garlic you see what I mean about high prices. Considering that each clove ten to fifteen cloves it should rather be produced profitably on a small scaleCustomers who want organic products.

How to grow garlic

1. Where did you grow them? Push cloves into the ground anywhere in your garden, and let them survive as they want. This will help your other plants. In order to grow crops on raised beds, they should be used. For example, a plastic garbage can makes a good raised bed if you cut holes punched in the ground, and it is about 9 cm on high. If you are careful, you could create three or four rings in each subject given to each 9 cm high, which makeRetaining walls for your raised beds.

Each ring could grow about 25 bulbs, with many cloves in each bulb.

Fill the rings with compost mixed with some soil. It is drained and fertile.

2. After a few years you have your own camp. Initially, you can buy bulbs from an organic grower or members of an association of organic light bulbs shares. Garlic from the shops is usually sprayed to prevent them grow. Also, your stock locally, because if it is introduced, have different growing seasons.

3. Plant the cloves in the fall (autumn). The roots and vegetables grow in winter, thick of it in the warmer season the onions. Wither as the green, harvest and weave the shrunken greens stored hanging over a beam in the garage.

4. Planting is easy. Disconnect all the garlic cloves in each bulb. If you have a raised bed about 2 m in diameter, you can forget about the cultivation in rows. Plant in equilateral triangles from the 4 inch sides. Toput it differently, planted them in concentric circles, which are slightly less than 4 cm apart, each toe with about 4 inches from the nearest neighbors in adjacent rows. This leads to a very uniform spacing. At this plant, press the flat bit down into the ground with the sharp bits at the top just poking above the ground.

5. Browse for your planting. Let it not dry out. Do not let weeds shade out your crops.

6. Harvest before the greens wither completely, on a hotdry day. Loosen the soil, do not pull them from the greens. Hang wash out to dry (do not) they keep an eye on them so they do not mold. Remove any moldy ones immediately. Cut the onions as you want to use them.

7. Garlic can
* Lower your blood pressure
* You regulate your blood sugar
* Remove heavy metals from the body
* Kills bacteria and mold
* Can not do too fights viruses - antibiotics
* Fights fungal infections
* FightsCancer

Of course, garlic is a mixture of hundreds of nutrients, but those who have claimed to be the most health benefits arises only when you put it into the air. To reset your garlic through a press, exposing the pulp for a few minutes of air before you use it. For example, I have to make a pound of garlic through the press into a pot, taking it on a large plate, while I prepare the rest of the stew. I make about two liters of cold soup at a time, and portions.

There is even alarge mild garlic that we call Russian garlic. You can cook an apple-sized bulb and eat it as a vegetable dish. Whatever you use it, do not miss garlic from your plans for vegetable organic gardening.

Elder Care

Container Garden Innovation

Containers in the garden is a great innovation of gardening. Container gardens are one of the fastest growing segments of gardening. Personally, I do not know who was the first publicly recorded, "container garden", and it is probably too trivial to spend time thinking about it. But I think it is an old practice, with a new name. I remember, flowers planted in pots, old tin, old shoes, empty milk cartons, jars, etc. Basically, we have stuffaround the house that is not usable in its original form. So be not a small thinker when it comes to what is or is not an appropriate container. Only to learn what to do, it has grown into what it is flowers.

Advantages of Container Gardening

There are some nice benefits with a garden container, such as:

Containers can be grown in which the traditional gardens are not possible, including the apartment balconies, interior, window boxes, rooftops, small courtyards, decks, patios, and where a backyard if not available. Container gardening makes it possible that your pots or planters in areas of position where they are the best growing conditions allowed. containers received in the garden, that human part of nature bring in their personal living spaces. I like the fact that I can not grow plants native to my region of the country's climate, and sometimes awesome results above all, where IControl of temperature, as well as inside. Growing in containers minimizes the problems of crop pests and diseases, or at least make them easier to control. Anyone can design and enjoy container gardening. It is an ideal solution for people with physical limitations that prevent them from working on the ground. It can also be the answer for the problems with the soil.

Container gardens can soften the hard edges of the deck, balcony or terrace.Individually they can be used for focal points in the garden or in the crowd, to define and create spaces. Just do not overdo it. Remember, "too much of the good, is not gonna work". Look for those of us to stop and admire the beautiful garden, but especially in the container garden, you probably already have some terrible things. I have, and I thought to myself, "this mess" is. In contrast, I hope I'm not the only one who stopped to admire abeautiful landscape, or ask the owners of the flowers in each container. I'm always amazed how beauty can be created and love the fact that I can enjoy it through smell, touch, feel and look astonished.

Elder Care container vegetable gardening gardening flowers plants trees

Planting Container Plants Indoors

When planting is nothing in there, enough sunshine for each plant must be considered. The principle benefit is that you can see and examine the roots, which can not be done with potted plants. All that glitters is gold and a splendid view plant can a poor root system that is suitable, have lead to disappointment in the future.

Choosing the rightPlant

What you should be looking for in a bare-root roses? A good example has at least three roots, more or less evenly distributed. They seem completely healthy, with no wounds or other irregularities. Beware of knotted or twisted roots, and especially the soft swelling. It may be known as tumor cancers, leading to a short-term investment.

However, before choosing the actual specimen in the garden center, you should understand how the variety of rose youwant. As a bare root plant is also bare of leaves and flowers, there is no way to know what you buy, unless you have made some homework. It is best to select the desired variety by gardens in the previous growing season. Write down the name of the plant, where possible, and then to the appropriate varieties from a reliable garden center.

Planting

Planting can be performed at any time during the winter months, provided that the plantdormant. They did not wait until it started sprouting their first leaves in spring. Success depends primarily on run-off and a maximum contact between the particles of soil and the roots. In this sense, a small mound of soil and place the rose roots to build carefully on them.

The planting hole should be large enough to comfortably accommodate the entire root system includes, while the floor should be well mixed with compost. It is important to plant the rose at the right height so that thebud union (the swelling that the roots separated from the branches) is just above the ground. If it is too high is, the system is unstable in windy conditions, but when sunk in the soil, susceptible to rot.

Replace the soil carefully, while firming it gently around the plant. In severe trampling causes soil, be careful not by excessive compaction. Finally, the roots need a ready supply of oxygen and moisture and nutrients. After planting it is advisable to keep a basinthe water, this must be delivered now. The pressure should be as low as possible so that it causes the soil to fall well, while avoiding undue soil disturbance. Note that the purpose of the exercise is to maximize the contact between the soil and the roots.

Aftercare

Spread a layer of mulch around the new roses to a depth of about 10cm (4in) keeps the plants free from clear, as this also lead to the development of red. The mulch keeps the moisture while reducing weedsand regulating the temperature of topsoil.

In the long periods between the winter rains that in the Mediterranean and other dry climates are common to feel the earth a few inches below the surface. If the soil is still moist, then mulch is has done its work, and there is no need to water quality. It should be remembered that the plants are at this stage is more vulnerable to a lack of air in the root zone, rather than a lack of water.

container vegetable gardening hydroponic vegetable gardening indoors

Wipe Out Those Winter Garden Woes

Look in your garden this time of year and wish it were still alive? In cold regions, tender types tuberous begonias, calla and gloxiniasLilies can be treated as in summer gardens in containers. This gives the gardener to grow a variety of early spring to late autumn.

Dutch flower bulbs are crocus, snowdrops, Eranthis or winter aconite, chionodoxas, Scillas, hyacinths, Leucojum or snowflakes, Dutch hyacinths, daffodils and tulips, the pride of the Northern Spring Gardens. Although hardy, they are not in the garden, containers, suitable outdoors, where temperatures drop well below freezing. Theyrequire the protection of a shed, unheated cellar or cold frame can. Gardening Pots also dug into a trench in the soil for the winter and with a thick blanket of marsh hay or straw covered. Where temperatures do not go below freezing, keep the Dutch language bulbs outside in the garden pots over the winter.

The best results in a container garden, start with fresh, firm, large flower bulbs each fall. Insure good drainage in the soileach garden pot and use a light soil with bone meal added. When in flower pots, dip during the period of rooting in damp peat to prevent rapid drying out. If this happens too often, will be injured roots and flowers are poor. If the weather allows, when the danger of freezing is to put your container garden outside, where they are to flower or in a nursery row until they can reach the bud stage. After flowering, move your container garden where foliage can ripenunseen.

For fragrance, concentrate on Dutch hyacinths, excellent for bedding large planter boxes or raised beds. Daffodils look well grouped around trees or large shrubs such as birch trees and forsythia. Tulips, formal character, glorious with pansies, violas, wall flowers to connect, forget-me-nots, daisies, English daisies, and the annual Candytuft in container gardens.

As already mentioned, in cold areas, Dutch flower bulbs do not shed or in small planted window boxesand left outdoors unprotected for the winter. but you can in large planters and boxes, deep and wide enough to contain a lot of ground, set. The garden pots should be half to two meters deep and about two meters wide. Set bulbs can make, with at least six inches of soil above them, planting them early in the fall, so they root growth before the ground freezes hard. In penthouse gardens in New York City, Dutch bulbs have been grown successfully in this way,but it is always a risk. It makes no difference whether garden pots are made of wood, concrete or other materials exist, it is the amount of land they hold that matters.

Actually, it's not the freezing of the soil, the bulbs violated (this happens in open areas), but it's the pressure and back pressure caused by frost on the sides of containers, the company and you will not be exercised. As a result, flower bulbs are bruised and pushed out of the ground, tore their roots. Where there is no fixedFreezing, but enough cold weather hardy bulbs can be successfully grown in the garden container of small size.

Here is a partial list of flower bulbs that thrive in container gardens. They help you with your garden design container

Achimenes are heat-loving vines with neat leaves and tubular flowers in blue, purple, white and red. Related to African violets and gloxinias, they are beautiful in hanging baskets and window boxes or pots in the gardenon tables, shelves or wall brackets. These small tubers indoors and give plants a sheltered spot with protection from strong sunlight and wind. Achimenes, an old standby in the South, is often worthy of planting.

Agapanthus or Blue Lily of the Nile is a fleshy-rooted evergreen plant, with strap leaves, often in tubs and urns on terraces and stairs in the summer when up to the big blue spikes unfold. Culture is easy, but the plants need a well-lit, frost-proof room orGreenhouse in winter. This is an old-time favorite, often seen in the gardens of Europe. It is a perfect bulb for container gardening.

The Calla Lily is Showy, and outdoors in warmer regions, but a tender pot plant in the north. The most well known is the white with large, shiny, heart-shaped leaves. These lamps in the house in February or March in the rich soil, and if it reflected the weather, change into the large pots in the garden and take in the open. Calla lilies do wellin full sun or partial shade, are heavy feeders and need lots of water. There is also a delicate yellow with white-spotted leaves. Treat yourself to your bulbs after foliage ripens and grow again.

Colorful and free-flowering Dahlias provide bounteous blooms cut. Tall, large flowering types can only be grown in large planters and boxes, but the dwarfs, even freer flowering, are excellent in small garden containers. The achievement of one to two meters tall, they grow easily from tubers in average soil in the sunor partial shade. You may also be raised from seed inside in February. When tubers in peat or sand in a cool frost-stored, they can be grown for several years. Check light bulbs in the winter, and when contraction sprinkle lightly.

Gladiolus, summer-flowering plant has spear like leaves and many hued spikes. Tubers can be planted in garden containers pass outside after last frost. Put them six inches apart and four to six inches deep. The best way to use them inContainer gardening is planting some every two to three weeks, so that you have a number of flowers in your container garden. Usage can be seen open in front of flowers. After the brown leaves, or there is a frost, lift corms, cut out leaves and dust with DDT, the tiny sucking thrips. After dusting, store corms in a dry place at 45 to 55 degrees F for future planting.

Gloxinias, another summer-flowering plant red and tender with large, tubular flowers, pink,Lavender, purple or white, and a broad velvety rosettes of leaves. These tubers indoors and out not to take until the weather is warm. Since the leaves are easily broken or injured by wind or rain, put plants in a sheltered place. The low broad eaves of contemporary houses, with limited sun, offer an appropriate framework for a series of pots or window boxes filled with gloxinias gay.

Now you have some great ideas for your container garden design. It is time to start planting yourBulbs.

Happy Container Gardening!

Copyright © 2006 Mary Hanna All Rights Reserved.

This article may be distributed only on your website and in your ezines want, as long as this entire article, copyright notice, links and the resource box remain unchanged.

hydroponic vegetable gardening indoors container vegetable gardening Elder Care

Inexpensively Propagate Tomato Plants From Seed

The least expensive method of growing tomatoes is to grow them from seed. Growing tomatoes from seed has the added advantage that you get a head start on the growing season. This can be very important if you live in an area with a short growing season. Start your seeds indoors about five or six weeks before the last frost.

You can start to increase your tomatoes from seed material for very little money. In fact, much of the supplies you probably already have. There is an offerBut I would not be stingy, and is a quality potting soil mix.

You need more than one vessel about 2 cm wide and 2 or 3 inches deep to a minimum. Search for suitable containers is not difficult. Milk cartons with the tops cut off to make large container, like plastic 2 litter pop bottles with the tops cut off, margarine tubs and yogurt cups. Once you have some drainage holes in the soils encountered all these will work well.

You also need something tocover your plants with plastic sheeting as clear bread bag, or sandwich or freezer bag. If you are using plastic pop bottles contain, then you can use the upper part that you cut off to use cover crops.

Place two or three tomato seeds in each container. I tend to mix the seeds into the potting soil bags then put them down and smooth the soil over them. Some people like the hole then put the first seeds in the hole and take the earth put over them. Which method feels rightand easy for you.

Label your containers with species, variety and date planted it easier for you to say what is what later sprout down the road.

When you are finished planting the seeds and water to cover. Place the seeds in a warm room. Do not put them in direct sunlight until after they have germinated. Check them every day and give them water when they need it. You want to keep the soil moist.

As soon as the frost danger is past, you can harden your small plantsout. Harden it simply means that they are used to the environment before. Do this by them outside for several hours a day the week before you leave plan.

gardening flowers plants trees

September Gardening Tips

Well, it's September, and in the morning are great, right? It is now entering the best time to plant trees and shrubs. It is a good time, as temperatures will fall on the ground and below ground temps are still warm.

This helps plants get a jump on next spring because the roots still develop in the warm soil while the tops of slowing growth. In addition, there are less winds and typically more moisture during this time of year, which naturally reduces stress onnewly planted shrubs and trees. You should be able to plant everything, including pansies, (which will last through next May) mothers, winter vegetables (starts), most trees and shrubs.

There are a few exceptions: palm trees might be better planted in spring and summer to get a good root establishment before winter sets in.

Oleander can kill some experience in the winter if planted too late in the season, especially the 1-gallon size. The largerSizes seem to suffer the least kill in winter. This is usually after the first winter that they have to kill even fewer or no winter, winter, as they age. With a lot of potash fertilizer winterize winter hardiness increases, almost all shrubs and trees to help.

It is recommended for valuable plants that may suffer from winter damage. Do not forget to compost, peat or land useBaumeister and root stimulator on all plantings, and make sure plants enough water.

These tips are designed for the southwestern states and Chihuahuan Desert.

hydroponic vegetable gardening indoors

Greenhouse Preparation Tips

If you have some experience with open garden soil preparation, raised beds or pots on the terrace, you can apply a lot of your greenhouse gardening knowledge with a little variation horticulture under glass. A greenhouse is not always a "Hot House", as it is sometimes called. Some species of plants most at slightly lower temperatures and with a much higher humidity than is usually kept in a natural garden outdoors or in your home. TheTemperature and humidity in a greenhouse can be controlled relatively easily.

There are a number of reasons why to choose a gardener in the garden in a greenhouse. The most common is the desire to extend a rule, the traditional growing season in the winter months. The use of a greenhouse allows the gardener to keep the plants in autumn and use throughout the winter for spring sowing or planting. When you start new plants from seed allows a greenhouseYou to plant the seedlings earlier than you would if it directly sown in the garden. Starting plants from seeds is also a very economical way to meet the cost of buying young plants from a nursery. Other common reasons for greenhouse gardening include growing tropical and exotic plants, growing vegetables for the winter and experimenting with hybridization of plants as a hobby or for home science experiments.

When preparing for yourGreenhouse, then you should consider designing a workflow layout for your new space. For example, it will be days you will only plant seeds and other days you are in the transfer of small seedling beds for larger beds. You can guarantee your potting soil in a particular position tables, shelves to another, etc. The layout is something to think through carefully to insure you are not having to remove everything after the first season and to rearrange. One way to create a layout design is tospend some time with "play work" in your greenhouse or just imaging how your work will be carried out in the room.

The situation you for your greenhouse is of crucial importance. You do not want a shady tree blocks sunlight essential. When planning the location, also remember that a tree, the small are now growing much bigger in the next five, ten or fifteen years. You should also consider traffic patterns. Is the greenhouse effect would be convenient to access? Is it far enough awayfrom the road and many lines to satisfy local building codes and neighbors? Also, you should check if your area has a local alliances that would affect the construction of a greenhouse.

Another important part of preparing is to determine, greenhouse, if you want to build the structure itself or hire outside labor. First you will need to carefully and honestly assess your own abilities and skills to run a DIY project of this magnitude. What tools will be necessary, and notYou have access to them and pursue the knowledge to them? Are you physically fit for the job itself? Will you be able to work in a schedule to meet your own needs and expectations are fairly implemented?

If you decide to hire outside help, you need to consider carefully the references. Have they built another greenhouse before? If so, you get a list of some projects they have completed in your area and do a drive-by assessment of their work. Or even better stop, and knock on the door and ask, with the owner of the project. Was it completed on time and the contractor must stick to the budget? Were there any unexpected delays or costs, put forward during the construction phase? Most homeowners who are proud of the final result to be happy to talk to you and show you the new greenhouse. Finally, you want to find out whether the contractor is bound and insured. The last thing you want is something to work one day and then hiring themselves with a worker compensation claimbecause they are hurt at work and the company had no insurance.

container vegetable gardening square foot gardening

Getting Your Pond Ready For Winter

Fall cleanup in the pond

The calendar says it is now autumn, and I have to agree. The days are getting shorter and the nights colder. So today I decided it was time to get the pond for winter. I pulled my rubber wader suit and joined the fish in my small pond. I pulled the water lilies and cut off the long stalks and spent flowers. I left the smaller leaves that are straight out of the plant, the plant set in total shock, and the leaves are still on oxygen, synthesizeand carbon dioxide for the plant as it shuts down for the winter. Then I let the planter in the deepest part of my pond for the winter. I removed all the floating plants and they will be composted on my strawberry beds to provide nutrients in the soil to be able to accommodate.

The floaties (ducks, frogs and turtles) were removed and stored until next year. Finally, I added a few "good" bacteria product back into the pond. The bacteria decompose contribute to the workMaterial in the bottom of the pond and the fish waste. It also reduces ammonia and nitrates, which of course is dangerous for your fish! This is a very important step in the spring and autumn.

Remember, you want to leave your pumps running all winter. Your fish still need oxygen and circulation. I have a 350 gph underwater pond at the end of my pond that flows through my UV light, through my garden, bog, as my biological filter works, landfills and back into the pondIn the opposite corner. This way I know I have a total circulation of water in my pond. I also have a small external pump, air to air bubbles in the deepest part of my pond through an air stone. This ensures that the fish will be adequately addressed by the cold winter months with oxygen, if they do not move in this section. Slows down your metabolism, because the water is colder and they go into a semi-hibernation.

Speaking of fish, have you taken to your pondTemperature lately? Seriously ..... when the water temperature dips below 50F, stop feeding your fish commercial high protein fish food. I know how little kids, they want to be fed constantly, but their digestive systems shut down in colder water and they can not digest properly. You can kill them if you continue to feed them! If you do not take it, you could throw in some green peas. Fish and love as they are mainly carbohydrates can not harm coming to the fish. It is the high protein inFish feed that they are not properly in the colder winter months process. In all likelihood, will naturally disappear to the bottom of the pond and you peace of mind. In the spring back to feeding high-protein fish food is temperature dependent. Remember, the magic number 50F.

Finally, I cover my small pond with some netting as we live in an area where herons fly by regularly, and the fish have lost their natural cover of the lily's. Protection is key when naturalCoverage is found dead, are back or eliminated.

Thanks for reading and I want to know more Author pond in the spring, just six months from now!

square foot gardening gardening container strawberries gardening flowers plants trees

Names Of Spring Flowers

Spring is a time of new beginnings and delights after a long winter. It is an ideal time for weddings and excursions into nature, like the numerous flowers are found throughout the entire season. This can be filled by involving a large garden container with only a spectacular plant and then meet with border plantings. Morethan the single point of view, is the design from the inside out available.

A number of shrub-sized plants, including most perennials are effective when surrounded along or mixed containers displayed. This is especially the case when trying to remove the width of a fence - the model mix large planters with your garden borders to create, rather than interest boredom along the fence line.

Like all good container plants, have the best place that these installationslong flowering periods or foliage that remains attractive throughout the summer. Here are some good ideas. View Angel's Trumpets (Brugmansia spp.) And lantana (Lantana camara), to name just a few names. One of the best applications for planting ornamental grasses is the big special container, purple fountain grass (Pennisetum setaceum "Rubrum") with its beautiful burgundy leaves and even take into consideration pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana), another large plants are the dwarf grassessuch as "Pumila. These are described as annual grasses in many areas and can be worn indoors over the winter.

Their large container pots look great with a single, large lump of good planting low-growing plants. Consider colorful society garlic (Tulbaghis violacea 'Variegata' leaved and variegated geraniums (Pelargonium spp.). Both are very effectively illustrated in a garden planter or container. Sedge is one of those simpleHave plants in your container and can be combined with trailers in order to give a finished appearance. Although the low-growing plants are not so spectacular, they offer a contrast, and are beautiful accents when they contain your large container planters.

In shady conditions, there are a number of plants, the beautiful view. Consider Caladium (Caladium spp.) Or, begonias, both tuberous begonias and Sutherland are great opportunities. Other plants shade of course, the Coleus - theyNow you have varieties that are suitable for SO terms on. Plectranthus is a large facility and very good for shade.

Topics sections can be created with your sample and other annual plants. Group, one of your shrub-like pattern with a large group of planters, pots with annuals or perennials for an interesting view. Ground cover plants are indeed effective when used around plants, such as angel trumpet as the leaves fall from the base, as they grow. Do not forget to addlayer of low-growing vines to add a splash of color to the tank. Super Bells (Calibrachoa) are so good, and one of our favorites, of course bacopas (Bacopa spp.) And licorice plant (Helichrysum petiolare) are also nice.

One of the best combinations with braided hibiscus plants and their environment as a model using the following colorful ivy and pink geraniums, relieve the extra dash of color to the scheme and the balanceAgreement.

gardening flowers plants trees

Bare-Root Vs Container Roses - What to Plant and When to Plant It

Many new and experienced gardeners ask when is the best time to plant roses? Bare-root roses can be encapsulated in a suitably large tank if you do not have time during the first two days or so to them permanently in their plant location. Another option is to "heel-in" the bare-root roses by burying the roots in a 45 ° degree angle in a ditch and water thoroughly. Roses "heeled-in can wait" until two weeks after their final planting in this way.

Now that you know whenthe best time to plant roses, do a bit of research on this, be prepared for what kinds of roses, one wishes to see, and a beautiful display of your timely additions to your garden!

square foot gardening

Winter Gardening - Planning a Greenhouse

The first greenhouse I saw was made one of my mother from an old window. They dug a hole in the ground with her garden spade. It was perhaps six inches deep. She put tomato seedlings in soup cans into the hole and then put a big old window over the hole. The seedlings were safe from predators and the winds and sudden cold. The sun warms the plants through the window, and they prospered.

In the middle of summer when it's pouring rain, or if I need to work on an experimental project,I often wish I had a greenhouse. My (Okay by experimental project, something of which I was dreaming and I want to try.) I am browsing through books and catalogs over the weekend and was thinking that a greenhouse would be nice if. So for the next few months I will plan my greenhouse.

First, the checklist: What I will do my greenhouse for me?

• Always provide enough space for the inclusion of all the plants I want to

• fit unobtrusively into my existingLandscape

The second checklist might be very long because it is a list of the types of greenhouses that a person could have. The list could go on a version of my mother's greenhouse gas (old windows extend over a hole in the ground) into a full-size buildings. He can power and water or near enough to water and electrical connections. Much of the decisions about the size depends on the available space you have, and the costs involved. I would prefer, for example, a little moreOn a stand-alone cottage. A lean-to shed is cheaper than they used the side of the house as part of their structure. But the disadvantages are too demanding. It would be only sun for part of the day, it would be difficult to ventilate, the temperature would be not the same everywhere, and it would be in danger of too much rain drizzling on the roof of the main building.

The smallest, you should also consider whether it is a stand-alone building to go or not, a structure that is 6 feetof 12 feet. This gives you bench and storage space. Try to position it so that the sun all day with the morning sun hits the east window in your garden shed.

For now, look in your garden, patio and see if you find a place for your greenhouse.

hydroponic vegetable gardening indoors square foot gardening gardening container strawberries

Important First Steps In How To Care For Bonsai Trees

Caring for bonsai trees is a great hobby. The pH scale ranges 1 to 14, with 1 being very acidic and 14 very alkaline. A pH reading of 7 is considered neutral. Most soils due to climatic conditions, tend to slightly acidic soil at the site and may require them to be lifted its alkalinity levels (ie they may have to "lime"). In dry arid climates soils are often on the alkaline side, and for good gardening, they arepH-value should have their levels lowered. Typically, a call to your local county Extension office may have a general idea of pH in your area. For the site-specific information or the garden offers the Extension Service Soil collection kits and for a small fee, the service laboratory for measurement of pH of your soil can be delivered. They are also specific liming or acidification recommendation for your garden.

Different plants prefer different pH values, but in general mostplants thrive in a pH range between 6.0 to 6.8. Some favorite Cottage Farms garden plants like azaleas, blueberries, and rhododendrons actually do better in more acid soils (pH 5.0-6.0). Hydrangeas do well anywhere from 5.0-6.8, but the flower color may be affected (blue flowers in acid soils and pink in more neutral soils). Having the optimum pH range insures proper nutrient availability and allows fertilizers to more readily absorbed by the roots, so checking your garden's pH is important for gardening work to assure success.

Once you have your soil pH of the Cottage Farms following guidelines may be adopted, helpful as you modify and maintain your garden soil pH. Three things to note:

The process of change and management of soil pH value is as a long term project. pH-changes take place gradually and you have to assess your results on a seasonal basis.

Soil type and texture will be required on the amount of lime or sulfur to modify pHLevels.

Increasing your alkalinity of soil is easier than it sour. Acidification of an alkaline soil is often best left to landscape professionals.

square foot gardening container vegetable gardening hydroponic vegetable gardening indoors

What Can Be Grown Inside During Winter?

Information is found on lightning-fast speed in the new millennium. No more gas guzzlers we drive. Now, change the fuel consumption of hybrid vehicles, has some even run with water for the fuel. Gardening change for the better, too. We garden outside in the spring and summer, but year-round as the fall and winter approaches only a small percentage of people who garden.

This must not necessarily be the case. New technologies have led the development of domestic,Plug and Play devices is now growing conservatories are becoming common place.

Fresh organic vegetables, herbs and fruits grown in speed can be indoors. Salad of lettuce seedlings growing in less than 20 days. Carrots are full grown in 31 days. Tomatoes from seeds began to be grown hydroponically until ripe to perfection on the vine in the 5 weeks to 6 weeks field. It sounds incredible, you know. It is as true as the new vehicles that operate from corn or water!

This is thenew wave of the future and the future is today. Be the first family on your block to grow an indoor vegetable garden year round. The economy has declined from the land of plenty we all knew and loved. It is fast changing to the land of the not so free and the home of the sheep.

What would you do if you were unable to go to the grocery market to purchase supplies for your family? What if all your friends and family were unable to get out to the grocer? If there was a quarantine do you have enough supplies to last there? Do you have a secure growing situation?

Most people do not! Now is the time to start preparing for the unknown. I'm not suggesting that any panic, just that we have become loose. We sleep on food from arriving at the supermarket at night, while we. Whether this always be the case?

My grandmother always told me, do not put all my eggs in one basket, because if I drop it, they all stand a chance. break Let's smash your eggs. Find, say, an indoor breeding situation for your family, and learn the system from the inside out, so to speak. It would be better safe than sorry. The people living in apartment high-rise buildings in the downtown would benefit by not having the bag for what may like miles up to their floor seem to carry.

square foot gardening gardening flowers plants trees

Plant Pansies for Autumn and Winter Color

Despite the pejorative connotation with the name "pansy" connected, these small plants are some of the boldest found in the garden. At any time of the year found pansies blooming in some regions of North America. They are spring and summer favorites in the northern regions and the fall and winter staple in the south. In climates that have not the extreme heat and cold in the north and south, the flowers will find gentle eyes the whole year.

Pansies come ina dizzying array of colors. The best known are those who have what is commonly referred to as "face". The face of a pansy is the black spots, may be somewhat circular or look like they were painted with streaks of hand. Some newer varieties on the market have faces, the other colors like blue or black instead of the traditional Bordeaux. The colors range from soft white, cream and pink, bold yellow, orange and reds. There are dramatic black and burgundy, as well assoothing blues and purples. The varieties that are termed "clear" are the ones where the "face" in absent.

Choosing a variety is the hardest part of growing pansies. The plants require very little care and preparation to be a spectacular addition to your garden or patio container. They are also delightful in window boxes to add some charm. When shopping for the plants themselves choose plants that are short and compact with many flower buds. The leaves should be a dark green. If the plants are tall and leggy they should be avoided. By choosing the bushy plants with fewer blooming flowers and more buds you have chosen a plant that will grace your garden with a longer bloom time.

Pansies prefer at least a half day of sun, preferably more. They also enjoy a moist but not soggy soil. The plants should be spaced about six inches apart to achieve the lush look that I call the "patchwork carpet" look. This is when the pansies are planted close enough together to grow together in a colorful carpet like mass without overcrowding them. It is absolutely breathtaking when you see them displayed in this manner. An all purpose fertilizer can be added when they are planted. The plants must be watered in thoroughly. The final step is to add about two inches of mulch such as straw to hold in moisture and add a little winter protection. And that’s it. Regular watering, removing spent blossoms and pinching the plants back if they get overgrown is all that is required. With these tips, you will have the most beautiful pansy on the block.

Elder Care container vegetable gardening

September - A Most Important Gardening Month

Unfortunately, many gardeners do not know that in September can be one of the most important gardening months of the year. To assess many gardeners, this month only one of the last of the growing season and provides little opportunity to wait more than, unfortunately not for the coming winter. September, but can a "busy, happy time devoted to plants, the preparation for the next year, keep the garden until the end of the season, and the improvement and new lawns. It is derived in theAutumn sowing in the north and offers opportunities to do the gardener, to many things that will ease the burden of work by early next year.

This is the ideal time for lawn work to start a new one to improve a poor man or damage to repair the cancer grass. The weather is very favorable for the growth of grass and the germination of newly sown grass seed. The days are getting shorter, the nights are cooler, there is enough sunlight and moisture in order to favor the development of grass and it isthe time, lawn weeds do not germinate.

The latter is a particularly important factor in favor of the good grass, an advantage not enjoyed when in the spring of newly sown grass needs with the weeds in a most critical time to compete. Hand pulls the most dangerous substances at this time and chemical weed control can not be used without damage to the delicate grass plants.

Thu Seeding Early

A very important point in connection with the planting of new turf grass and starting in the fallis to ensure that all operations are done and seeding until mid-September that the new lawn a stable, thick stand before the winter comes will develop. Each day of delay after that time increases the risk of injury in the winter, especially if the winter should follow without much snow.

This is the time of year when top-dressing (adding to) a thin layer of sandy loam or peaty soil are carried out without too much concern about the outlook, which usuallyare very large, the introduction of weed seeds, particularly crabgrass. Weed seeds in the soil is not an immediate problem of the new grass, nor will it be next year, if an appropriate program of fertilization, mowing and watering is practiced. Xeriscaping Ideas is the answer for irrigation. Top dressing is not necessary for a pretty good lawn, but it is very beneficial for a poor man or one who is on a thin base of good soil, as too often is the case.

The top-dressing soil, agood seed bed for grass, which require reseeding. Fertilize the correct order and the process of rejuvenation, a poor lawn, then top-dress, seeds and water down.

Application of fertilizer

A good lawn is not over fertilizing and this is one of the best times of the year, providing an additional supply of plant foods, so that a particularly strong growth can be made during ideal weather conditions prevail.

All fertilization of lawns should be done by theMiddle of the month so that the lawn to get the maximum benefits without the associated risks when feeding later date. One of the risks of what would become a soft, lush growth late in the growing season. It would probably be injured or killed during the winter. Use lawn fertilizers in the amount of two pounds of actual nitrogen per 1000 square meters of turf, and be sure to water immediately.

Elder Care hydroponic vegetable gardening indoors square foot gardening

Winter Planning For Your Spring Organic Garden

Now is the time to plant your organic garden in the spring. Winter plan is a good time to sit back and think about how you did your garden last season, and what you want done by others or others do in the spring.

Winter is a good time to make a sketch of your garden and make changes to the layout. One of the consequences of this is that they are dependent on a consistent and reliable feeding regime to a far greater extent than the garden plants growing in regular soil.

The best potting "soils", or media, available today are those based on perlite, a natural glass that has been excavated and processed to form the white, ultra light product sold in the garden centers. It is used by landscape Specialists mainly because of its low weight, an important consideration in the roof and balcony, garden, and because it provides an almost perfect balance between air and moisture. Another feature is that it is chemically inert. While this is usually an advantage is considered, it creates a total dependence on highly soluble nutrients available to plants. The gardener must take this into account when deciding which feed on the container shallPlants.

The use of compost and other organic materials, while essential to the health, ventilation, and mineral balance of the garden soil is practically irrelevant when growing plants in perlite. The name of the game, perhaps, is unfit to organic gardeners, simply to ensure a supply of mineral nutrients, in other words, chemical fertilizers, at any time. How is this best done?

Sure, hand-fertilization with the highly soluble products such as ammonium sulfate, or 20-20-20, isvery tedious and time consuming. For, while a can fertilize about once a month with the peat-based potting soil mixes, plants growing in perlite, through it is chemically inert, require spoon feeding at least once every two weeks, if not once a week. The majority of home gardeners is tired, such a rule sooner rather than later.

An elegant alternative is a pump, the soluble fertilizer fertilizers at very low concentrations added in order to install the water emitted by theDrip irrigation system. This method is known as fertigation, is certainly the most convenient, efficient and successful way of providing nutrients to plants in the pot a soilless, inert mixture such as perlite. However, there are a few disadvantages that should be identified.

* Many states require the installation of an expensive backflow, prevention device which must be approved annually by a qualified person, more like a motor vehicle license. If this fails, there may be criminalin some countries.

* In mild winter climate, plants grow further and therefore need some feeding during the winter, albeit at a lower level. This often leads to the need, will open the irrigation system (fertilizer) on the application of irrigation, although there is no need to do so - an unacceptable waste of water, especially in dry climate gardens.

Alternatively, both pumps and easily soluble fertilizers fertilizer is slow, or controlledRelease fertilizer. This release of essential nutrients in a given period of two months to one year. You will need some work, as the pellet is inserted into the ground, but this is only to do a few times a year.

container vegetable gardening hydroponic vegetable gardening indoors gardening flowers plants trees

Planting Kitchen Herbs

Your herbs right before you can bring your kitchen with these quick and easy container planting. ...
